Volcan de Fuego–Fire Volcano–erupted Sunday, June 3 in Guatemala, burying one whole community in ash and blocking roads with a deadly flow of rocks, ash and hot gas.
Roads, bridges and houses have been destroyed, families have evacuated the area. An estimated 113 people have died and 197 are still missing.
Catholic Relief Services’ local partner Caritas Escuintla is already providing lifesaving assistance within emergency shelters.
