Your help is urgently needed! Let your members of Congress know that you are deeply concerned about the administration’s recent decision to stop work on almost all humanitarian and development assistance programs. While Secretary of State Rubio issued an exception for lifesaving humanitarian assistance, organizations are currently not able to access money to implement lifesaving programs.
New administrations usually review ongoing programs against their policy goals. However, ceasing almost all lifesaving assistance has real impacts for human life and dignity—and on U.S. national interests.
Catholic Relief Services’ approach to foreign aid is about partnering with people to help them build better futures by providing the resources and tools they need to overcome challenges and thrive. While we are always there with lifesaving relief in times of crisis, our goal is to help the people we serve become self-reliant and live with dignity. When societies thrive, they contribute to greater global stability, reduce the risk of conflict, and create safer, more prosperous environments that benefit everyone, including us.
International assistance provides lifesaving aid in emergencies, protecting human life and dignity. It also advances U.S. national interests by supporting long-term development programs that help families and communities build resilience and reduce their need for humanitarian aid in the future.
As people of faith, let us stand shoulder to shoulder with our sisters and brothers in need. Tell Congress to engage with the administration to ensure humanitarian and development assistance programs can operate during the review process.
